Year 3 - 2017/18
Welcome to Autumn Term in Year 3!
Year 3 are spending the Autumn Term learning about the whole school topic of Dreams.
In English, we will be reading Roald Dahl’s The BFG using our handmade dream jars as inspiration for writing. We will also be watching a short film called The Dream Giver and writing character and setting descriptions and short stories based on the film.
In Maths, we will be working hard at mastering the place value of 3 digit numbers as well as developing our skills and knowledge in addition, subtraction and measures. The children are challenged regularly to apply their skills to problem solving and puzzles.
In History and Geography, we will be learning about the Amazing Americas and Native American civilizations. The children will be taking part in a Native American Day where they will be dress up and experience native American traditions, foods, sports and dance.
In Science, our topic is Dreaming Up The Future and we will be uncovering the wonderful inventions and discoveries of various scientists and inventors like Marie Curie. Our trip to the Science Museum will allow the children hands on experience with new technologies and discoveries.
In PE, we will be focusing on gymnastics and dance. We will be focussing on developing strength, flexibility, control and balance and using a variety of movements to travel around a space. We will be learning and choreographing our own tribal dances.
Homework is set on Wednesdays and due in the following Monday.
Reading records are checked and books changed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
PE is on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Full PE kit is required.
Spellings are set each Thursday with a spelling test the following Wednesday.
Children should be reading for 10 minutes each night, ideally out loud to an adult. Talk to your child and ask them questions about what they have read.
